Well it’s been a while since we have updated the blog and a lot has happened since we competed for the first time at the Pure Elite in April.
Since our first show we worked on the La Diva Design stand at Bodypower, competed for a second time at the UKUP show on May 22nd and we have done some further work on our posing routines with our posing coach in London as we have signed up for more shows later in the year. Most importantly we have been on a well deserved holiday! (Now you see why we haven’t updated the blog!)
After the first competition we were straight back on prep ready for the next show but a week before that show we were delighted to showcase our stage wear on the La Diva Design stand at Bodypower. This was a fantastic experience for us and we cannot thank La Diva owner and designer Veronique Rees enough for allowing us to have this opportunity. Once the excitement of Bodypower was over it was time to knuckle down and get back on stage at the UKUP.
The UKUP was a smaller show than the Pure Elite and the federation is still in its infancy. The posing routines we had developed for the Pure Elite had to be adapted slightly to suit the judging criteria for this show but thankfully we only had to made subtle changes.
Mrs C: Competing for the second time was easier for me as the pressure of walking out for the first time wasn’t there anymore. I knew what to expect with tanning and the back stage routine but I was still incredibly nervous and got very shaky again on stage. There were only 6 competitors in my category which was Bikini short and 5 went through to the finals so I only had to beat 1 other girl to get through. Mr C on the other hand was in a huge category and was feeling the pressure especially as I had placed last time and he didn’t. This also put pressure on me as I dreaded the same thing happening again. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened!! I was delighted to place 3rd in this competition and get my invite to the British Finals but sadly Mr C did not place. It was hard to come to terms with again but we put it all down to experience and now have plans for the future.
Mr C: I was pretty comfortable and not really affected by nerves at all in the UKUP show, though I was aware that I was in a big category so didn’t have a great hope of placing. I was very disappointed though, as this meant I’d have to sit in the audience for the finals, which left me with the obvious mixed emotions. My feedback from the judges was mainly about adding size and width to my shoulders, which leaves me in a difficult place as I’m not comfortable with getting much bigger. I do want to compete with UKUP again in future because the show was well put together and good fun, but I’ll have to see how my pphsique changes in future and reassess it then.
The day after the UKUP we had a couples shoot with the talented Matt Marsh. The shoot was brilliant and we got some awesome images. This really helped to cushion the blow from the day before and lift both our spirits.
Mrs C: Since the UKUP we have both had time to reflect and think about our futures in this industry. Personally I love competing and can see myself doing it for some time to come. I love to improve my physique and challenge myself and see what I can achieve and despite getting nervous I do love being on stage. It takes me back to my performing roots and I feel at home there. Mr C has had to think a little harder about his experience and his future. He has since decided to compete again but in the beach body category with the Pure Elite. He has decided not to compete with the UKUP again as he feels his physique and the body he wants doesn’t fit with their categories at this point. We both agree that it is much better to focus on one show and one category that suits him rather than trying to become something that he doesn’t want to be to fit a category.
Since making this decision we have been on a family holiday to Jamaica to recharge our batteries and prepare ourselves for what we have ahead. We booked some one to one sessions with our posing coach to raise our game and make sure that we stand out on that stage. I have 4 shows ahead of me now and my prep has just begun this week. The first show is on 16th October and is the Pure Elite again. I am entering this show in the couples category with Mr C and having a go in the fitness model category again. I had considered not competing in this show and just going as a spectator to watch Mr C compete in the Beach Body category but then I figured I may as well use the show as a warm up show for the Pure Elite Pro show and UKUP finals in November to try to help with my nerves. The last show is the MW classic show which is also in November. We are both competing in the show which is more of a modelling based show with an evening wear round as well as a swimwear round. This is an evening show with an after party and will be a good opportunity for networking and should be a nice way to end the competing year off for both of us. Many of the friends we have made competing will be there so it should be great to celebrate in style!
Mr C: As already said, I am not competing with UKUP again this year, and didn’t make the finals, so I am going to have to be in the audience for that one – I’m looking forward to supporting Mrs C but must admit it will be a difficult day for me. At this point, I’m also not a part of the Pro show for Pure Elite, so I have a massive amount of pressure on me for the October qualifier because I desperately want to get through and earn my Pro card so that I can feel like I got somewhere this season – being truthful, I feel like I’ve failed so far (and yes, I know, categories etc…). I’d also really like to do well in the couples category because this whole journey has been about doing something together for us. Finally, I am looking forward to the MW Classic as it’s something a bit different and should be an enjoyable event in itself. With my potential leaning more towards photographic work in future it may also be an interesting way to dip a toe into that world too.
Mrs C: I have already booked our tans, our hotels and I have 2 new sparkly beautiful couture La Diva Design bikinis on order for the next round of shows. My daughter will be coming to watch me compete in both finals which will be the first time she has seen me on stage! It’s very exciting and I can’t wait to get back on stage again. Busy times ahead!!
Watch this space for further updates. We will aim to update the blog as often as we can.
