Well, the last few months has been very busy for us both! Life, work and domestic running around has meant that fitting in our training in has been extremely difficult, and we’ve both found prep tough this time. We’ve also had no real spare time, so keeping the blog updated has had to take a back seat unfortunately. Because of our holiday in July, our prep has been a little shorter too, at 10 weeks, which has been a challenge as Mr C had done a short but intensive bulk beforehand and holiday added a few pounds to us both!
We’re now just a couple of days out from Pure Elite in Hayes, just outside London, and looking forward to competing again.
Mr C: Having a shorter prep and doing a bulk before holiday have both made things difficult for me. I’ve had to do a lot more cardio than I usually do, and have had to cut back the food a bit more too. I’m just reaching a stage-like condition now, so I think I should be ok, but it’s a little difficult to tell because I’m trying to avoid getting too lean and losing too much muscle this time! I feel like I’d be a bit more comfortable if I had an extra couple of months, but that’s just the way the dates have landed. I’m a lot more stressed out with this competition because it’s my first shot at the Beach Body category, which is the only one I really fit, so if I’m going to do well this year and make it to the Pro show, this is my one and only chance. I know I shouldn’t be putting so much pressure on myself, but I can’t help it as I feel I really need a positive result at this point. Generally I’m feeling quite positive though, and provided peak week goes well I think I have every chance of doing well.
Mrs C: Wow that went fast… I cant believe I am a few days away from stepping on stage again. I kept a tight reign on myself during off season and avoided gaining too much body fat and went on holiday in July in pretty top shape. However, despite training every day and eating moderately whilst away in Jamaica, a holiday is there to be enjoyed and the extra food and drink I consumed definitely hit my physique. It took a good 6 weeks of prep to get me back to where I was pre holiday and this left me a little frustrated that I wasn’t starting from the point that I had hoped. Nonetheless I was definitely in a better place than before the last prep and this time I have trusted the process much more which has helped with the psychology of prep. I have found that I am tired…. very tired now and although I LOVE competing and pushing myself, my body and my mind are ready for a break. Next year I plan on a longer off season and less shows to take some pressure off myself and allow my body to recover and also to get excited about competing again as it should never be a chore! I know Mr C feels the same and we have some new exciting projects in the future to work on which is going to take up some of our time. As I work through peak week I am feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves. But I cant wait to get up there again especially in the couples category and enjoy that moment in the lights with Mr C.
We’ll try to keep things updated as much as we can throughout this peak season, and let you all know the results etc.!
